DOZ Marathon Lodz with PZU has been awarded the Five Star Quality Road Race certificate by the European Athletics. It is the first five-star marathon in Poland.
Dozens of requirements have to be met in order to become a Five Star Quality Road Race. Standards were set by the European Athletics in the process of numerous consultations with runners, event organizers and athletics officials. This
led to preparing different sets of requirements for 1-, 3- and 5-star races, which relate to safety, medical protection, course and time measurement, athlete services, communication, volunteering and other aspects of event production.
- This is a brand new project launched by the European Athletics which can be recognized as an addition to the certificates awarded by the IAAF, like IAAF Gold, Silver and Bronze Road Race Labels. However, it is more focused on amateur athletes who can expect the organizers of certified races to deliver the highest quality services – says Jerzy Skucha, President of the Polish Athletics Association. - We are extremely happy to welcome DOZ Marathon Lodz with PZU as the first Polish running event with the five-star certificate. This race has been setting new trends for several years and it comes as no surprise that the European Athletics has rated it so high. We believe other Polish races will take an example and apply for their certificates as well – he adds.
DOZ Marathon Lodz with PZU was also a IAAF Silver Label Road Race in 2015 and acts as the Polish Women Championships.
In 2013 we were the first Polish marathon to become IAAF Bronze Label Road Race. Then, we joined the elite group of just 16 marathons worldwide certified as IAAF Silver Label Road Race – says Michał Drelich, race director. - It is a great honor for us to become a Five Star Quality Road Race certified by the European Athletics. And for the runners willing to compete in Lodz, it is a guarantee of the highest level of services – he promises.
DOZ Marathon Lodz with PZU will take place on April 17, 2016. Registration starts on September 21, 2015 on the official website www.lodzmaraton.pl/en to be launched in its updated version on September 14.
