Only by the end of July can the athletes register for Herbalife IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia – the Polish triathlon trademark with over 3.800 athletes already on the starting lists. As life is not all about triathlon, however shocking this may sound, the race offers much more than just a sporting competition.
Triathlon competitions will be launched on Friday with the first-ever IRONKIDS event in Poland, organized in the aquathlon formula. Saturday will be dominated by sprint triathlon races, both individual and relays, followed by the main IRONMAN 70.3 competition on Sunday, August 7, which should gather approximately 2.300 participants from more than 30 countries. However, there will be much more to do starting from Thursday, August 4.
If you plan to stay in Gdynia for a few days, why don't you come to the Grunwaldzki Square for the outdoor cinema, provided by the race partner – cable TV operator Vectra. You can watch Tour de France (Thursday), Fighter (Friday) and The Finishers (Saturday) – all with English subtitles or dubbing. And for free!
Friday is the opening day for the Expo and IRONMAN Merchandise Store, both located at the Kosciuszki Square which is the main touristic place in Gdynia. Official swim training in the morning, Itaka IRONKIDS and the before-mentioned outdoor cinema could be some nice additions to your day schedule. Also, do not forget to take a photo with a giant M-Dot shaped clock, counting down days and hours left to the race start.
Coming to Saturday, you should probably focus more on the race itself. Another morning swim training will be then followed by sprint competitions, bike check-in and athlete briefing (in Polish and English). Of course, the race office and the expo will be open for the whole day, as well. In the evening, “Triathlon Story” theater play will have its premiere in the Music Theater in Gdynia, although this is what should be interesting for local athletes mainly.
The race day will give you all the memories from the triathlon competition itself, as well as the strong support from the crowd on the course and in the finish area. When you are done with the bike check-out and the slot allocation ceremony (35 slots for IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships 2017), join the all-triathlon after party in the Pokład Club and share your after-race impressions with your friends and other athletes.
Of course, feel also free to visit some of Gdynia's cultural and touristic spots. You can learn more on www.gdyniaturystyczna.pl. More information available also on the official website www.ironmangdynia.pl/en.
