Spectacular debut of 5150 Triathlon Series in Warsaw

771 athletes participated in the first ever 5150 Triathlon Series event in Poland – 5150 Warsaw Triathlon. Elliot Smales of Great Britain took the victory in 1:55:57, while a local favorite Paulina Kotfica (POL)  prevailed in the women's field, crossing the finish line at the Theatre Square in 2:10:24.

Almost all the best Polish pro triathletes did their best to get on top of the podium but eventually it was the young Brit, Elliot Smales who took the lead on the run course and won the debut 5150 Warsaw Triathlon in 1:55:57. Marcin Ławicki of Poland finished second and losing by 51 seconds to the winner, while Tomasz Szala (POL) completed the Top 3 in the men's field.

Paulina Kotfica (POL) finished the swim on the second place, behind the back of her compatriot, Hanna Kaźmierczak, but then took a commanding lead on the bike and managed to keep it on the running course, getting to the finish at the Theatre Square in 2:10:24 and beating Joanna Sołtysiak (POL), who took the second place, by as much as 5 minutes. Another Pole, Aleksandra Jędrzejewska finished third in 2:17:31.

In total, 771 athletes conquered the course of 5150 Warsaw Triathlon, organized as a part of 5150 Triathlon Series, owned by the World Triathlon Corporation. Among them, there were several Polish celebrities, who tend to act as triathlon ambassadors in their country, including well-known actors and TV presenters.

- If I were to describe the race in one word, I would have to say 'spectacular' – said Thomas Veje Olsen, Regional Director of IRONMAN for Scandinavia, Poland and Baltic countries, who visited the race. - High organizational standards, perfect weather conditions and the exceptional run course located in the historic part of the city of Warsaw made the race really outstanding. Add to this the spectacular finish at the foot of the Grand Theatre and the National Opera and you get a highlight 5150 Triathlon Series event which should attract even more triathlon fans in the years to come – he added.
